Police In Md. Seize 5,000 Packs Of Cigarettes

BERLIN, Md. (AP) -- Berlin police have arrested a New Jersey man after more than 500 cases of cigarettes were found in a car during a traffic stop.

Police say an officer stopped a car that was allegedly speeding on U.S. 113 on Monday night. Authorities say four cases of cigarettes were visible on the back seat and agents from the Maryland Comptroller's Office were called in.

Officers tell WBOC-TV that more than 500 cases, or 5,000 packs, of cigarettes were seized from the car. Police say the retail value of the cigarettes is more than $32,000.

Nasser Othman, 30, of Clifton, N.J. was charged with importing and possessing unstamped cigarettes.
