Missing Nazi Diary Transferred To Museum

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal officials have transferred about 400 handwritten pages from the wartime diary of a key Nazi adviser to Adolf Hitler to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement transferred about 400 handwritten pages from the diary of Alfred Rosenberg to the D.C. museum on Tuesday.

The diary was seized by ICE Homeland Security Investigations special agents in Wilmington, Del., following an extensive investigation.

Rosenberg played a significant role in the slaughter of millions of Jews and other non-Aryans considered inferior under the Third Reich. He was convicted of war crimes at the Nuremberg trials after World War II and executed in 1946.

Holocaust Memorial Museum Director Sara J. Bloomfield says the diary will help in understanding the ideas that led to the extremist ideology of Nazism.
