AAA Expects Millions Will Travel From Mid-Atlantic

WASHINGTON (AP) -- AAA says millions of people from the mid-Atlantic region are preparing to travel for Christmas.

The auto club says more than four in 10 people in the Washington area will be traveling for the holiday, totaling more than 2.3 million people. AAA says that's a slight increase those who traveled last year. This would mark the fifth year of consecutive increases.

AAA says the vast majority will travel by car this holiday season, and air travel is expected to be down slightly.

In Maryland, AAA says Christmas travel is expected to be flat. The auto club is projecting about 1.9 million Maryland residents will travel at least 50 miles from home for the holiday.

In Delaware, AAA projects 257,000 people are expected to travel, a slight increase from last year.
