Toledo Beats Coppin State 85-66

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Rian Pearson scored 22 points on Saturday and Toledo beat Coppin State 85-66 to win its 12th straight, matching its best season start since 1966-67.

Justin Drummond opened the game with a 3-pointer for Toledo (12-0) and the Rockets never trailed, taking a 44-24 lead into halftime on a 16-2 run. Pearson scored 15 in the half and Toledo outshot Coppin State (4-8) 51.6 percent (16 of 31) to 33.3 percent (10 of 30).

Coppin State stiffened in the second half, cashing in on turnovers to cut Toledo's lead to 13 at 4:59 on a jumper by Daquan Brickhouse. But Toledo let the Eagles get no closer, pulling away by 20 at 2:06 on a 3-pointer by Julius Brown.

Brown finished with 18, Drummond with 13, Matt Smith added 10 and Jordan Lauf grabbed 10 rebounds.

Andre Armstrong led the Eagles with 15 and Arnold Fripp added 11.
