Frederick County Launches Anti-Drug Campaign

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Frederick County officials are launching a coordinated effort to fight drug abuse.

County Commissioner Billy Shreve is kicking off the campaign with a news conference Friday in Frederick.

He says the county school board, sheriff’s office, state’s attorney’s office, public health agency and municipalities are all involved.

The Frederick News-Post reports that the plan will include town hall meetings, pamphlets and a contest to raise awareness about increased use of prescription drugs and heroin.

Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins says the number of heroin-related tips and complaints to his agency has quadrupled in the past year.
