Savannah State Tops Coppin State 75-53

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Jyles Smith grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds and scored 14 points to lead Savannah State over Coppin State 75-53 on Saturday.

Smith's 20 rebounds set a Savannah State Division I record. The previous mark of 19 was set by Arnold Louis on Jan. 12, 2013 -- also against Coppin State. Smith's previous high was 16.

Jeremiah Hill scored 16 points for the Tigers (4-12, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who won their second straight game after dropping 10 in a row previous to that. Alante Fenner added 14 points.

Savannah State led 40-26 at halftime with the help of 7 3-pointers. The Tigers shot 58.3 percent from the floor for the game, including 11 of 21 3-point tries.

The Eagles got within seven points with 16:22 left before the Tigers pulled away with a 10-0 run.

The Eagles (4-11, 1-1), who lost their seventh straight, got 15 points from Michael Murray.
