Police Search For Person Of Interest In Canton Brick Attack; Family & Community Speak Out

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A brutal attack has people on edge in the popular nightlife destination of Canton. Now police have a new lead in a violent carjacking there.

Investigators are now looking for a person of interest in that attack, as the community rallies around the victim.

Surveillance pictures show the man police are looking for in connection with a vicious attack in Canton.

Jon Fogg, 30, was walking to his house when a robber demanded his car keys. When he complied, he was viciously beaten over the head with a brick.

Fogg's skull is now fractured in six places. He broke both hands and lost eight teeth.

"It's really outraged the community that something like this would happen to one of our citizens," said Mike Beczkowski, Canton Community Association.

Fogg's family is hoping the attacker is caught.

"We would like to see this person brought to justice. We wouldn't want this to happen to anybody else," said Fogg's sister, Melissa Fogg Castone.

The week before Fogg was attacked, there was another violent carjacking just a few blocks away.

In that incident, two robbers grabbed a man near Patterson Park, demanded his keys, smashed him in the head with a flower pot and took off with his car.

Community leaders are warning everyone to stay vigilant.

"Our goal is still to own the streets of Baltimore--every alley, every avenue and every sidewalk," Beczkowski said.

Neighbors are now banding together to hold a fundraiser for Fogg's recovery.

"People are pulling together already and this is just something that will help our neighborhood out even more and get people feeling safe here again," Jasmine Touton with the blog "Stay Classy Canton" said.

And they're keeping an eye out for the man who police call a person of interest.
