Broken Rail May Delay Metro's Blue, Yellow Lines

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Metro is warning riders that a broken rail south of Reagan National Airport may cause delays on the blue and yellow lines during the morning rush.

Metro says riders could see 20 minute to 30 minute delays during the morning commute Thursday while repairs are made.

Crews must install a new 39-foot section of rail between the Braddock Road and airport stations and blue and yellow line trains will use just one track between the two stations until the repairs are complete.

Metro says sharp changes in temperature can cause broken rails and the area has seen a 50-degree swing in temperatures in the last few days. The transit agency says most rail breaks are detected automatically by its signal system.
