Cold Snap Prompts Frostburg State Closure

FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) -- Frostburg State University is shutting down as another cold snap locks its jaws on western Maryland.

The school in Frostburg says it's cancelling classes from Monday evening until Tuesday afternoon.

Spokeswoman Liz Medcalf says the closure is due to forecasts for a snowy afternoon followed by blustery winds and temperatures plunging to 6 below zero by Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service predicts a high temperature Tuesday in Frostburg of 9 degrees.

The agency also predicts subzero readings overnight in Cumberland.

Single-digit temperatures are expected Tuesday morning in Washington and Baltimore.
