Suspect In Fatal Stabbing Claims Self-Defense

BOONSBORO, Md. (AP) -- A man charged in a fatal stabbing in Boonsboro allegedly told police he was defending himself.

The Herald-Mail newspaper of Hagerstown obtained charging documents filed Friday against Thomas Hungerford Jr. He's charged with the first-degree murder of Tylena Sigler, 42, at her apartment Thursday night.

Hungerford, 40, allegedly told a Washington County sheriff's deputy he was attacked by a strange man while visiting Sigler. He allegedly told the deputy he grabbed a knife off the table and "just started slicing."

Hungerford also is charged with attempted first-degree murder of Gerald Hurd, 42.

Deputy First Class Carly Hose says Hurd was in serious but stable condition Friday after being flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore Thursday night.

Deputies say Hurd had complained earlier Thursday that someone had slashed his car tires.
