Va. Fugitive Barricaded In Frederick Hotel Surrenders Peacefully

FREDERICK, Md. (WJZ/AP) -- Maryland State Police say 30 people have been evacuated from a Frederick hotel where a suspected fugitive from Virginia barricaded himself in a room. The fugitive, David M. Fioramonti, surrendered peacefully hours later.

The hotel is the Country Inn & Suites near the intersection of Route 85 and Interstate 270. Police have set up operations across the street at the Francis Scott Key Mall.

Detective Sgt. Wayne Wachsmuth says state troopers and U.S. marshals were trying to serve a warrant around 11 a.m. when the man barricaded himself in a room on the second floor of the hotel.

He says that when officers identified themselves, the man said he had a gun.

At about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Fioramonti walked out of his hotel room and was taken into custody by troopers from the State Police Special Tactical Assault Team Element. Troopers immediately noticed the fugitive had wounds to his torso and neck.

EMS personnel were summoned and treated Fioramonti for multiple self-inflicted stabbing type wounds. It is not known at this time what he used to stab himself. He was flown to Shock Trauma where he is undergoing treatment.
