Filing Deadline Approaches For Md. Candidacies

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's gubernatorial race officially has gained another candidate.

Anne Arundel County Del. Ron George filed to run in the Republican primary for governor Tuesday with his newly announced running mate, Shelley Aloi.

The deadline for candidates to file is 9 p.m. Declared candidates have until Thursday to withdraw.

The primary is June 24. All 188 seats in the Maryland General Assembly will be decided in November.

Statewide offices such as attorney general and comptroller will be on the ballot. A Republican is running for attorney general after the GOP didn't field a candidate in 2010. Jeffrey Pritzker filed this week.

Comptroller Peter Franchot, a Democrat, is running for re-election. Republican William Campbell also is running. Franchot won in 2010 with 61 percent of the vote to Campbell's 39 percent.
