Lafayette Knocks Off Loyola 84-71

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Seth Hinrichs scored 22 points and Joey Ptasinski chipped in 18, helping No. 9 seed Lafayette take down eighth-seeded Loyola (Md) 84-71 in a first round Patriot League tournament matchup Monday night.

The Leopards (11-19) shot a scorching 63.6 percent from the field (28 of 44) and hit eight 3-pointers. Nick Lindner finished with 14 points and five assists, while Bryce Scott added 12 points.

Jarred Jones led Loyola (11-19) with 28 points, on 9-of-16 shooting, and had 10 rebounds.

Lafayette led 42-35 at halftime, and pushed that lead to 12 early in the second half after a Ptasinski 3-pointer. Loyola crawled within three at the 12:41 mark, but the Leopards countered with a Hinrichs three-point play and another Ptasinski 3-pointer. Hinrichs made a layup to go up by double digits for good with 3:22 remaining.

Lafayette will play at No. 1 seed Boston University in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
