Anne Arundel Co. Police Continue Search For Car Involved In Hit-And-Run
DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- Anne Arundel County Police still need help in finding the driver who hit cyclists Lynn Kristianson and Maile Neel and fled the scene.
Rochelle Ritchie has the latest on the investigation.
There is an extra amount of money added to the reward, which now totals $10,000. Police have no leads but they hope the extra cash will change that.
Anne Arundel County Police say whoever was behind the wheel of a Honda SUV is responsible for hitting and practically killing two bicyclists.
"We're still looking for this person who was driving a 1995-2001 Honda CRV," said Lt. T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.
The Feb. 22 hit-and-run happened just as 62-year-old Kristianson and 52-year-old Neel were approaching the narrow shoulder of the Davidsonville Bridge.
Police say the driver could have been blinded by the sun and not have seen the women on their bicycles at all--but still, the damage to the car would have indicated he hit something.
"The fact that you're missing a mirror on your car, the fact you have damage. There were two bicyclists involved, there was another car behind this vehicle. I don't believe so and we don't believe so," Smith said.
One woman's injuries were so severe, she is still in the hospital. Family and friends now dig into their own pockets to increase the reward money.
Police say the driver is described as a white man, 50-60 years old, with a gray mustache and wearing dark glasses.
Tragedies like this are a scary reminder for bicyclists. In 2013, Patricia Cunningham, an Annapolis High School track coach, was killed while riding her bike.
"It's scary and it seems to be happening more often," said one bicyclist.
Once that driver is tracked down and taken into custody, he will be charged with fleeing the scene of an accident.
