Mental Illness Cited In Slaying Of Grandparents

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The mother of a 19-year-old Keedysville man charged with murdering his paternal grandparents says her son is mentally ill.

Bonnie Minoglio of nearby Boonsboro said Monday that her son Joseph was under a doctor's care before the fatal stabbing Saturday of 84-year-old Joseph Michael Minoglio and 78-year-old Peggy Minoglio.

She asked for prayers for her family.

Her son was being held Monday in Montgomery County, Va. Police say he fled there in his grandparents' car.

The Herald-Mail newspaper of Hagerstown reported that an arraignment hearing was scheduled Monday in Christianburg, Va., on a fugitive charge.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says it is seeking to extradite Minoglio back to Maryland to face two counts of first-degree murder.
