OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — Officers searching for a missing 8-year-old Washington, D.C., girl found the body of woman Thursday morning in a motel in a neighboring Maryland town, but weren’t sure if the cases were connected, Prince George’s County police said.
Just hours after D.C. police asked for the public’s help finding Relisha Tenau Rudd, they advised county police to check the Red Roof Inn in Oxon Hill because of a possible link to the case, county police spokesman Officer Harry Bond said.
County officers checked several rooms and came across the woman with trauma to her body, Bond said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, but Bond said police don’t know if the woman is connected to Rudd.
The girl was last seen Feb. 26 at a southeast Washington shelter. She was picked up by someone her family knew, but wasn’t returned, police said.
An Amber Alert issued Thursday afternoon said the child she may be traveling with two people in a white 1976 GMC truck with Maryland license plates, 305015.
Police described Rudd as black with black hair and brown eyes, about 4 feet tall and weighing 70 to 80 pounds. Police said she may be in need of medication. Police also sent out images of two vehicles for the public to watch for. Neither vehicle is the truck listed in the Amber Alert.
