Man Charged In Grandparents' Slaying Back In Md.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office says a teenager charged in the stabbing death of his paternal grandparents has been returned to Maryland from Virginia.

Nineteen-year-old Joseph William Minoglio was formally charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree murder in the March 15 slaying of 84-year-old Joseph Michael Minoglio and 78-year-old Peggy Minoglio. He was held without bond in Hagerstown.

Minoglio lived with his grandparents in Keedysville. Police say he fled 200 miles in their car to southwestern Virginia, where he called 911 and surrendered to police.

His mother told police that Minoglio has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and had been acting strangely after a recent medication change.

His father has described Minoglio in court records as a drug addict who had threatened to harm family members.
