Baltimore Woman Charged In Fayetteville Death

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- A Baltimore woman has been charged in connection with the stabbing death of a man found inside a Fayetteville home in February.

Fayetteville police say Ashia Marie Simmons, 37, faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Richard Jackson.

The 67-year-old man's decomposed body was found at a Fayetteville home in February. He had been stabbed multiple times, and investigators said he hadn't been seen in more than a week.

Jackson's car was missing, and authorities said it was ultimately found abandoned in Baltimore.

Police said Simmons was being held in Baltimore on unrelated charges. It wasn't immediately known if she had an attorney or when she would return to North Carolina.
