Weekend Weather Was Picture Perfect To View The Cherry Blossoms In D.C.

WASHINGTON (WJZ)—It may be chilly and rainy now, but this weekend was a different story. Those who headed to Washington, D.C. to see the cherry blossoms were not disappointed.

Jessica Kartalija reports.

"Something as beautiful as the flowers, I think, are the smiles of the people. You have grandmothers here and 3-year-olds and all ages in between. Everyone is in a very good mood," one man said.

The beautiful weather this past weekend had a lot to do with it. After a long winter, the skies over the Tidal Basin were picture perfect.

"This is a wonderful time for me because every year, people wait for the peak time. But you don't really rely on the weather. If the weather is bad, you really won't see the most prettiest time. I feel really great now to see this weekend," a woman said.

"We knew it was going to be nicer today than it was yesterday," one woman said. "We just had to come down and see the beautiful sites."

Some buds have yet to bloom. Others are in full effect.

"We've seen them when they have been in full bloom, so I think we know how good it can be, but it's really nice today," she said.

"Any flowers make me happy all the time, especially cherry blossoms here. It's so wonderful and awesome to see every year, once a year," one woman said.

"I think it's beautiful, and I like the cherry trees," one little girl said.

"It's a gorgeous day out. It's a great family day out," her mother said.

"It's beautiful," said her father.

The cold weather that we've had has shifted the blossoms to bloom a little bit later this year.
