WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) — A man has been indicted on a manslaughter offense after his acquaintance died after being hit during an argument.

James Michael Leppo, 25, of Finksburg was arrested Monday after a grand jury returned an indictment of manslaughter, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Leppo was charged in the death of Mark Pawley. The Carroll County Times reports that according to prosecutors,on Nov. 2, Leppo and Pawley, who knew each other, got into an argument. Prosecutors say Pawley pushed Leppo, who punched Pawley. Pawley fell and hit his head.

Pawley died a month later at Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

Leppo’s lawyer said at a bail review Tuesday that his client punched Pawley in self-defense.
