Frostburg State Aims To Increase Nursing Educators

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The University System of Maryland has approved a master's degree in nursing program at Frostburg State University to address a shortage of nursing educators.

The Board of Regents approved the proposal at a meeting Friday in Baltimore. The program still requires approval by the Maryland Higher Education Commission and the Maryland Board of Nursing.

Frostburg State currently offers a nursing bachelor's degree. The new program would add a master's degree focused on either education or administration.

The school says the education track would address a statewide and national shortage of nursing faculty. Although four other Maryland universities offer such a degree, only Frostburg State would have an online option. The school says that would make it attractive to working nurses with scheduling conflicts.
