Kennedy Center Hosts Break Dancing Competition

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Break dancing will find an unexpected home in Washington this weekend.

The Kennedy Center is hosting a break dancing competition Saturday with two-person teams of "b-boys" and "b-girls" vying for a chance to win a $10,000 prize for their dance skills. The teams will compete throughout the evening in the Kennedy Center's grand foyer.

The Top Notch dance competition is part of the Kennedy Center's "One Mic: Hip-Hop Culture Worldwide" festival. The competition opens with a dance workshop and public lessons at 6 p.m., followed by the competitive rounds. Registration for the competition opens at 3 p.m.

Organizers say at least 40 teams have already been confirmed.

The judges include Japanese hip-hop artist Narumi, Washington-area dancer Toyz aRe Us and New York dancer Rokafella.
