D.C. Opera To Present 'Magic Flute' Free In Ballpark

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington National Opera is presenting a free, live simulcast of its new production of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" this weekend at Nationals Park.

The opera will be broadcast live Saturday from the Kennedy Center Opera House at 7 p.m. It's sung in English and features colorful sets and costumes designed by Japanese-American artist Jun Kaneko. Organizers say "The Magic Flute" is a perfect opera for the entire family.

This is the sixth year the company has offered "Opera in the Outfield" at Nationals Park. The event is free and draws thousands of people each year.

The ballpark opens for pre-show entertainment at 5 p.m. Saturday, including drumming demonstrations, face painting and costumes.

Seating in the outfield is first-come, first served. Free seating is also available in the stands.
