ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A physical fitness center at a National Guard facility will be named for a Baltimore soldier who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.

Maryland’s Board of Public Works on Wednesday approved the renaming of the center at Camp Frettered Military Reservation in Reisterstown for Maj. Robert J. Marchanti II.

The 48-year-old Marchanti died Feb. 25, 2012 from wounds received during an attack at the Interior Ministry, Kabul, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry Division Security Partnering Team of the Maryland Army National Guard.

A date for a dedication ceremony has not been set.
