City Employee Resigns Amid Investigation
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore city employee resigned from his post amid an investigation into allegations that the department he oversaw misspent city funds.
Christopher Tonjes, who served as director of the Mayor's Office of Information Technology (MOIT) since July 2012, handed in his resignation on Monday.
Tonjes had been on administrative leave since March, when the office of the inspector general began investigating allegations that the office paid contractual workers for work that may not have been performed. Tonjes' deputy chief, Jerome Mullen, assumed the role of director in Tonjes' absence.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said in a statement Monday she accepts Tonjes' resignation, and is "confident MOIT can move forward in supporting several priority initiatives for my administration."
Tonjes' attorney, Steve Levin, said his client "has done nothing wrong."
