Cockeysville Astronaut Brings Outer Space Down To Earth With Tweets

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. (WJZ)—He's 220 miles above Earth, but local astronaut Reid Wiseman is making sure we're along for the ride on the International Space Station.

Mary Bubala reports the Cockeysville native is using social media to connect to his followers below.

A stunning picture and Tweet from Reid Wiseman has the caption "goodnight from space. Our planet is almost all ocean and so pretty."

He launched into space from Russia last week with two others, joining the crew on the International Space Station.

For Wiseman, it's a lifelong dream he clearly wants to share with the world.

In one Tweet, which Wiseman calls a "great perspective thru the lab," we can see how intricate the space station is.

And in another Tweet Wiseman says "first run done - heels were tingling, food bouncing in stomach. Yuck!"

The astronaut, who grew up in Cockeysville, is also connecting with his family here in Maryland.

Wiseman Tweets: "My parents were waving in Maryland at sunrise, so I took a picture of them."

Bill and Judy Wiseman were in Russia to watch the launch.

Now back home, we spoke to them before they left about their excitement.

"From the first time he was able to look into the sky, we knew he was destined to a life in the air, so to speak," Bill Wiseman said.

And life in the air wouldn't be complete without a selfie from space.

Reid Wiseman currently has 38,000 Twitter followers. He's expected to do at least two space walks to make improvements on the ISS.

Wiseman will be on the space station for six months.
