Restaurant Near Camp David Closes After 85 Years

THURMONT, Md. (AP) -- A family-run restaurant near Camp David in Thurmont has closed after 85 years in business.

The Frederick News-Post reports that wait staff informed customers at the Cozy Restaurant that Sunday was its last day in business.

Server Harry Fogle says it's his understanding that owner Jerry Freeze, the son of the original owner, is ready to retire. The News-Post reports that Freeze did not return a message seeking comment.

The Cozy website says it's the oldest restaurant in Maryland owned and operated by the founding family. It's been inducted in the Maryland Restaurant Association Hall of Fame and the National Restaurant Association Hall of Fame.

The Camp David Museum inside highlights the restaurant's association with presidents staying in the area, starting with Herbert Hoover in 1929.
