More Than 20,000 Early Vote In Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Officials in Maryland say more than 20,000 people cast ballots on the first day of early voting in the state.

The Washington Post reports the 20,382 ballots cast Thursday is the highest number the state has seen in a single day of early voting for a primary.

Elections officials say nearly three quarters of those votes came from Democrats.

Maryland started offering early voting in 2010. During the gubernatorial primary that year, 77,288 people voted with the first day attracting 14,049 voters.

Early voting runs until June 19.
