Maryland Lottery Joins Multi-State Association

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Maryland Lottery has joined a multi-state association that will allow it to offer a greater variety of games.

The lottery announced this week that it has joined the Iowa-based Multi-State Lottery Association.

Lottery officials say the agreement with the 32-state association won't affect Maryland's participation in the multi-state Mega Millions and Powerball games. Powerball is run by the association.

Lottery director Stephen Martino says the first new game is called "Monopoly Millionaires." It's based on the board game and offers a top prize of $25 million.

The announcement comes as lottery ticket sales have dropped 2 percent in the past year. Martino attributes that decline to increased competition from casinos. Maryland has four casinos, with a fifth scheduled to open in Baltimore in August.
