Man Rescued After Fall Into Potomac River

GREAT FALLS, Md. (AP) -- Fire officials say a man was seriously injured after falling about 30 feet into a rocky section of the Potomac River.

Montgomery County fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says the man fell around 3:45 p.m. Sunday in Great Falls Park.

Piringer says rescue crews from Fairfax County, Virginia, reached the man first by land, but ultimately he was evacuated on Montgomery County rescue boats and taken to a U.S. Park Police helicopter. He was then flown to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries.
