Water Wheel Collecting Trash In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore's inner harbor has a new trash collector.

Television station WJZ-TV reports a water-powered device that was installed just over two months ago has now picked up 85 tons of trash and debris. The so-called water wheel is moored where the Jones Falls enters the harbor and uses the water's current and solar panels for power. The wheel drives rakes that snag trash, and a conveyor belt transports the debris to a trash bin.

A video of the water wheel operating has more than a million views on YouTube.
