PG County OKs MGM Casino At National Harbor

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A building plan for a $925 million MGM casino and hotel near the nation's capital has been approved by local officials in Maryland.

A Prince George's County panel meeting in Upper Marlboro voted 8-1 for the plan at National Harbor Monday.

The vote paves the way for construction of the resort, which could open in July 2016.

The casino is slated to have 3,600 slot machines and 140 table games. Plans also call for a 300-room hotel.

MGM officials now will seek a building permit, which could be obtained next month.

The casino proposal won the support of Maryland voters in a 2012 ballot question. It is also supported by of County Executive Rushern Baker.
