First Morning Rush On Silver Line Runs Smoothly

McLEAN, Va. (AP) -- Nearly 10,000 people have used Metro's five new Silver Line stations during the morning rush hour.

The transit agency reported Monday that operations ran smoothly during the first weekday operations for the $2.9 billion Silver Line, which opened to passengers on Saturday.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says the Reston station at the end of the Silver Line ranked as the 12th busiest of Metro's 91 stations, with more than 4,700 boardings and more than 1,000 exits at the station as of 10 a.m. Monday.

Metro is hoping that a year from now, the Silver Line will average 50,000 trips on a typical weekday, but Stessel said it will take some time to build ridership on the line.
