Allegany County Develops Solar Regulations

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Allegany County officials are in the early stages of developing solar energy system regulations.

Local media partners report  that a proposed solar energy facility in the county has prompted local officials to start working on regulations.

David Dorsey, the county's acting planning director, says it's preliminary work.

Details about the proposed energy facility haven't been defined, and no formal sit plan has been filed.

E. William DuVall, the chairman of the county's Planning and Zoning Commission, says the idea involved a solar energy facility of roughly 25 acres between Midland and Lonaconing.

While details are few, the county has no guidelines in place for dealing with solar energy systems. As a result, local officials asked Dorsey to draft some regulations.
