Md. Officer-Involved Shooting Being Investigated

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Police are investigating a shooting in Frederick involving a police officer who police say was struck by a car before firing his weapon.

Police say it happened late Saturday on West Patrick Street. Police say officers observed a suspicious situation and that during the investigation the driver of a vehicle hit an officer with his car. Police say the officer then shot the driver in the arm.

Police say the driver fled but was later taken into custody. Both the officer and driver were treated for injuries.

Police identified the driver Sunday as 45-year-old Roy Turner of Frederick. Police say he was charged with motor vehicle violations and possession of a controlled dangers substance with the intent to distribute. Turner did not appear to have a listed telephone number.
