Obama Names Baltimore County Schools Superintendent To Advisory Commission

TOWSON, Md. (AP/WJZ) — President Barack Obama has announced his intention to appoint Baltimore County Schools Superintendent S. Dallas Dance to the president’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans.

The White House made the announcement on Thursday.

Dance has been superintendent in Baltimore county since 2012. He was previously chief school officer for the Houston Independent School District from 2010 to2012.

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz issued the following statement in recognition of President Obama’s appointment of County School Superintendent  Dance:

“I am delighted that President Obama is recognizing Dr. Dance for his outstanding work in leading the Baltimore County Public Schools. The appointment is quite an honor. The people of Baltimore County are well aware of the progress that our school system is making under Dr. Dance’s leadership, and it is very gratifying to know that his talents are now being recognized by the President of the United States.”

Dance has been Baltimore County’s superintendent since 2012. He was previously chief school officer for the Houston Independent School District from 2010 to 2012.

Dance received a B.A. from Virginia Union University and an M.Ed. and Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University.
