3 Injured After Car Crashes Into Dunkin Donuts

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- Two people suffered serious injuries at a Howard County Dunkin Donuts when an SUV crashed right into the shop! Now investigators want to know what sent the driver out of control.

Christie Ileto spoke with witnesses who barely escaped.

Claire Endres heard it before she saw it.

"A lot of glass just breaking at the same time and screaming," she said.

She works at the Dunkin Donuts. It's covered in police tape after the driver of an SUV rammed through the store window.

"We just went outside and there was a car in the store and we were just like, `Holy [expletive],'" she said.

"And then the people in the car came in panicked, like `Call the ambulance! Call 911!' and then me and her were just freaking out," said Kiersten Potts.

It's unclear how fast the driver was going but emergency crews say two customers were standing outside when the driver plowed through the window, driving them into the store.

"They were both transported priority one to Shock Trauma with traumatic injuries," said Howard County Fire Battalion Chief Christine Uhlhorn.

"It could have been me and her," said Potts.

Both employees are lucky to be alive.

"We could have been cleaning the tables; that's where the customers were," said Endres.

Gawkers stopped and snapped photos of the once-popular spot now deemed unsafe.

"It all depends on the engineer," said the store owner.

That owner is frazzled by the sudden reality of his gutted business---an accident that could have been worse, even deadly.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
