WEATHER BLOG: More Warm Weather

A couple of additional days of very warm weather, which should reach its peak in many areas east of the Appalachians on Saturday, is the highlight of our forecast over the next several days.

It still seems imminent, though that a cold front will be reaching the Eastern Seaboard late on Saturday or early Saturday night. It will trigger a series of showers and thunderstorms, and then some noticeably drier and cooler air will prevail on Sunday into next week.

Thursday, the combination of bright sunshine (after morning fog lifts in areas outside of the larger cities) and highs in the upper 80s will certainly be reminders that it is still summer-- most of this afternoon's temperatures will be 4-6 degrees above the seasonal averages. Also, the core of a large area of high pressure will begin to drift offshore this afternoon and early Friday night. Therefore, under a mainly clear sky Thursday night, a light southerly wind will prevent from being as cool as the previous night.

Friday, the dewpoint temperatures will start to creep up as the flow on the back side of that departing ridge of high pressure becomes a bit stronger -- it will be pumping more humid air in on a south and southwesterly wind, and most temperatures will be soaring well into the 80s.
