Body Of Missing NIH Scientist Found Near Wrecked Car

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Police say the body of a Gaithersburg man missing since Aug. 21 has been found in western Maryland.

Authorities say they believe the remains found Thursday are those of 54-year-old Martin John Rogers.

They say the body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office for identification.

Police say they don't suspect foul play.

The remains were found along MV Smith Road, south of Interstate 68, in eastern Allegany County.

Montgomery County Police say a driver reported what appeared to be an abandoned car, and Maryland State Police found the body nearby.

Family spokeswoman Sandra Thomas told The Cumberland Times-News that the wrecked car was down an embankment.

Rogers was a biochemist at the National Institutes of Health in Rockville.
