Steve Davis: Tip Of The Cap to Birds Brass

We had Dan Duquette on the show Wednesday. You can listen HERE.

He really has done a remarkable job since taking over. Think about it. Prior to Duquette, the Orioles had 14 straight losing seasons. Since he was hired, 3 straight winning seasons, and barring an epic collapse, two playoff years. He has done it without making big splashes. In fact, the biggest splash he made with Jimenez blew up in his face.

Somehow, they survive the injuries to key players and indeed thrive. I almost feel like the mantra should be "Who Are These Guys?" -- Steve Pearce, Caleb Joseph, Delmon Young, Miguel Gonzales, Wei-Yin Chen, Darren O'Day, over the last few years, anyone could have had them. They were cheap and available. They have played huge roles in the Orioles' success.

Duquette rolls the dice on dumping Johnson for Hunter, and Britton emerges as a shutdown closer. He got Cruz on the cheap, and he now has a legit MVP candidate. These are just some of the moves.

Duquette seems to have a knack for making under the radar moves that pay huge dividends. For a guy that was out of the majors for about a decade, he sure has made an amazing comeback in Baltimore.
