Prince George's Schools Host Immunization Clinics

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- The Prince George's County school system is hosting a free immunization clinic for all students to get their shots before a deadline next week.

The school district is offering free immunizations Saturday at four schools. Health providers will be providing immunizations at Bladensburg, Fairmount Heights, Northwestern and Oxon Hill high schools. The clinics are open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

School officials say immunization requirements have changed for Maryland students this school year in kindergarten and seventh grade. Kindergarten students must have two doses of the chickenpox vaccine. And students in seventh grade are required to have a shot for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis as well as the meningitis vaccine.

Students must receive their immunizations by Tuesday, Sept. 16. Otherwise they will not be permitted to attend school.
