2nd Rabid Cat Euthanized After Md. Camper Attacked

SNOW HILL, Md. (AP) -- Health officials say a second cat tested positive for rabies and was euthanized following an attack on a camper in Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Worcester County health officials said Thursday that the calico cat was part of a "free-roaming colony" living on an unoccupied property outside of Berlin.

It's the second cat in the area that tested positive for rabies this week.

Health officials tracked the cats down after a woman was attacked by a rabid cat on Monday at the Pocomoke River State Park. The woman has recovered.

The cat that bit the woman was euthanized. It was an adult male with gray fur and patches of white.

Authorities say that anyone who thinks they may have had contact with either cat should immediately call the health department at 410-641-9559.
