Symposium To Help People Transition From Prison To Society

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Nearly 300 people are scheduled to attend Maryland's second biannual symposium to help people transition from the correctional system to society.

The symposium is scheduled for Monday in Annapolis.

State Sen. Verna Jones-Rodwell, D-Baltimore, is hosting the event.

Representatives from public agencies, community-based nonprofits, faith-based organizations, educational institutions and labor unions are scheduled to attend.

An update from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is scheduled on the implementation of recommendations from the 2012 Maryland Re-Entry Task Force.

The event also aims to raise awareness of residents in all jurisdictions of the current programs in their counties and to provide assistance to those who do not currently have re-entry programs.
