AP Source: Ray Rice Video Addressed To NFL Security Chief
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- New developments in the Ray Rice video scandal, as America continues to wonder who knew about the elevator video before it went public.
Rick Ritter has the new claims from an anonymous law enforcement official.
That law enforcement official says he sent the video to league security chief Jeffrey Miller in April, but Miller claims he never saw it.
The explosive fallout in the Ray Rice case continues with the NFL taking yet another shot at the way they handled the investigation.
On Thursday, a law enforcement official leaked to the Associated Press that he sent the video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancée, Janay Palmer, to NFL headquarters in April--addressed to league security chief Jeffrey Miller.
He has a voicemail from league officers confirming it got there.
"The voicemail is from an unidentified woman saying that she received the video, thanking the law enforcement official for sending it and telling him he's right, it's terrible," said Rob Maaddi, Associated Press.
The law enforcement official says no one from the NFL ever asked him to see the video. But when he mailed it anonymously to NFL headquarters, he attached a note that read: "Ray Rice elevator video. You have to see it. It's terrible."
The official went on to say: "I knew there was a possibility Mr. Miller may not get the video, but I hoped it would land in the right hands."
Miller fired back with his own statement Thursday through an NFL spokesperson, saying: "I unequivocally deny that I received at any time a copy of the video and I had not watched it until it was made public on September 8th."
Just last week, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke at length and reiterated the NFL never saw the video before TMZ released it.
"We asked for it on several occasions, according to our security department we went through it, asked for it," Goodell said.
But Goodell stressed he's far from pleased with the way he handled the situation.
"I made a mistake. I'm not satisfied with the process we went through and the conclusions," he said.
Goodell already announced that a former FBI director would lead an internal investigation, which is still ongoing.
A separate ESPN report claims Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti also covered up the case to keep Ray Rice on the team. Bisciotti disputes that claim.
