N.Y. Man Wants Boy Scouts To Have Md. Retreat
SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- A retired apparel industry executive wants to donate his sportsman's getaway on Maryland's Nanticoke River to the Boy Scouts.
The Daily Times of Salisbury reports New Yorker Edwin Lewis, who made millions with Tommy Hilfiger and Polo Ralph Lauren, wants to donate his property to the Boy Scouts.
An agreement signed in July was conditioned, in part, on the Wicomico County Board of Appeals' granting an after-the-fact variance to allow two illegally constructed buildings on the property to continue standing. The five-member appeals board granted the variance Thursday.
The local Boy Scouts chapter would like to use the two buildings to host week-long programs in the summer. Boy Scouts would paddle to the campsite to practice outdoors skills.
Lewis bought the property for $283,000 in 1999.
