Birdland Is Chirping 'Let's Go O's!' As The Playoffs Begin

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Call it Orioles Magic! The first game of the playoffs is one for the record books. The fans couldn't be more thrilled. With one down, the O's need just two more to take the division.

Marcus Washington was with the roaring crowd at Camden Yards.

It seemed like an easy victory as the Orioles took Game 1 in the American League Division Series. Before the first pitch was thrown, you could feel and hear the excitement from behind the gates.

"It's a great feeling. It's one of those feelings from the Super Bowl season and you feel it in the air and the fans are feeling it as well," said Charles Swanner, of Dundalk.

It was a packed house as the Orioles took on the Detroit Tigers

"It's amazing. I've never seen this many fans in the stands and up here ever," said Beth Daniel.

The one thing that wasn't missing was excitement. People even dressed the part as enthusiastic fans.

"Everybody talks about that Orioles Magic and you can really feel it in the air. Everybody is excited, everybody wants to be a part of that magic," said Jamie McDonald.

Two hours before the gates were set to open for the big game, one lady was already ready to go.

"It is absolute fun. There's no other reason," she said. "We're usually here at least an hour and a half before the gates open during regular season, two hours postseason."

If you ask any O's fan, they will tell you they had one wish Thursday night.

"For the O's to win by any means. I want them to win, most definitely. Go O's!" said Sam Bishop.

Those wishes were granted as the Orioles beat the Tigers 12-3. Now time ticks toward Game 2.

There is little time for the Orioles to celebrate. Game 2 is Friday at noon.
