Weather Blog: Saturday

We have a stationary boundary across southern VA stretching back into the Tennessee Valley. An area of low pressure is riding along this frontal boundary and is currently bringing our region the area of rain for this morning. the steadiest rain will hold off until around 1-2 p.m. this afternoon where we could see a spotty shower in the afternoon. Overall, the main thing is this morning will be wetter than this afternoon. Since we are on the northern side of the boundary we will see a cool day today. High temperatures will struggle to make it to 60 degrees with cloudy skies and rain. As we go into tonight, the boundary will sink to the south and drier air will move into the region as an area of high pressure will come from the west to the east into the Mid-Atlantic. This will allow for clearing skies and good radiant cooling night. Temperatures will bottom out in the upper 30s west of I-95 to middle 40s along the I-95 corridor. With the wet grounds and the surface high over, we could see fog develop in the morning hours. After a chilly start to the day, we will see the surface high move off to our east which will shift our winds out of the south. We will still be under the influence of the high pressure, so the front boundary will remain to our south and we will remain dry and cool. We will see more sunshine tomorrow than today. By Monday a surface low will form in the Mid-West and pull the warm front back north to allow our region get back into the warm sector. This will allow for a spotty thunderstorm with the warm air advection. Most of the region will remain dry, but can not rule out a few spots seeing a shower or thunderstorm. Temperatures will rebound 4-8 degrees warmer than they will be on Sunday.
