FIRST WARNING WEATHER: Flood Watch In Effect

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A flood watch is in effect from 10 a.m. through this evening for portions of Maryland.

Meteorologist Chelsea Ingram has your First Warning Weather forecast.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

A powerful cold front will cross the region into Wednesday night. Expect heavy rainfall and some flooding of urban and low lying areas. A flood watch is in effect through 8 p.m. for the Baltimore and Washington D.C. metro areas. In addition, a few strong thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts or an isolated tornado will be possible.

TIMELINE:

Update, 2:50 p.m.: Plenty of rain across the region. Some lightning, too.

Update, 1:30 p.m.: The tornado warning has been canceled in Howard County. Hail and heavy rain reported.

Update, 1:22 p.m.: The tornado warning has been canceled in Anne Arundel and Prince George's County. It is still in effect for Howard County.

Update, 1:12 p.m.: The tornado warning is in effect for Anne Arundel, Howard and Prince George's County until 1:30 p.m. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted in Laurel. Take cover immediately if you're in the area.

Update, 12:44 p.m.: The tornado warning in Prince George's Co. has been cancelled.

Update, 12:26 p.m.: The tornado warning is in effect for Prince George's County in Maryland until 1 p.m.

Update, 11:46 a.m.: Some heavy rain slowly, but surely pushing east.

Update, 10:52 a.m.: The system continue to push slowly east with rain movements south to north.

Update, 9:30 a.m. Heavy rain begins to move into parts of Rockville, Md.  and Westminster, Md.

Update, 9:21 a.m.: A flood watch remains in effect for the following areas Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's, and Southern Baltimore counties. Expect 1 to 3 inches of rain, with heavier rainfall expected as the day goes on.

Original post, 8:05 a.m.: Areas under the watch include: Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's, and Southern Baltimore counties. A plume of heavy rainfall is expected to move across the region later this morning and continue into this evening.

Some areas could see one to three inches of rain which may cause flooding of low lying areas.
