United Way Fans Out Across Baltimore For A 'Day Of Action'
DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) -- One of the world's largest and most successful community volunteer organizations fanned out across the Baltimore area Wednesday for what is called a "Day of Action."
Mike Schuh reports on what was happening in Dundalk.
At Dundalk Elementary, there is a new voice in Ms. Boquard's first grade class. Donnell Hogan was there because of United Way's "Day of Action."
"We have 38 projects all over central Maryland. We have two in the schools here at Dundalk, where we have volunteers coming in and reading to the kids," said Beth Littrell, United Way.
They're volunteer--teachers like Maggie Boquard. Her kids like her, her class and what she does, but it's always nice to get a new voice in the room.
"Oh yeah, got to change up the pace every once and awhile. They're excited when anyone comes in. So having so many people from the community coming in is a really big deal for them," Boquard said.
The volunteers are from Wells Fargo, but many other businesses sent employees Wednesday. Sometimes helping is as simple as listening.
Such help from the United Way is something a principal can count on and is thankful for.
"And they know when people take time out of their daily schedule to do something for us, that these are important people who care about us. And that's really important to children," said Principal Barbara McLennan, Dundalk Elementary.
In total, 350 volunteers from 30 employers participated.
