Maryland Knows It Must Stop Wisconsin's Run Game
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's defense has one imposing objective Saturday at Wisconsin: neutralize running back Melvin Gordon and the nation's leading rushing attack.
Gordon leads the nation with an average of 174.3 yards per game, part of an offense that's averaging 343 yards rushing.
Coach Randy Edsall says, "We've got a tremendous challenge in trying to stop Melvin Gordon."
Gordon runs behind an offensive line with five players who weigh well over 300 pounds.
Defensive end Andre Monroe says, "Their offensive line is big, but we've just to keep doing what we do."
The Terrapins held Iowa to 116 yards on 31 carries in a 38-31 win last week.
A victory would make Maryland bowl-eligible for a second straight season. The Terps are 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten.
